Remember that caladium bulbs originated in the Amazon basin of South America. For this reason, they do not like cold temperatures. To ensure the receipt of quality, healthy bulbs, and customer satisfaction, we only ship our caladium bulbs when the destination area’s temperatures are optimal for planting. Suppose the bulbs encounter temperatures below 60° F in transit. In that case, they could be damaged, causing them to be delayed in sprouting, have small immature leaves, erratic growth, and rot. We don’t want that to happen!
We start shipping in early March to the warmer regions of the country. As other areas warm-up, we proceed with shipping to them. Please see our shipping map and correlating dates below to determine when we anticipate shipping to your area. If your order is placed after your area’s anticipated shipping date has passed, we will ship your bulbs on the next available ship date.
We know some of you have greenhouses and prefer to get an early start with your plantings. If you would like to take the chance of having your order shipped earlier than the date we determine best, we will gladly honor your wishes but will not be able to guarantee the bulbs. Please note your requested ship date in the comments section of your order. Keep in mind that our earliest ship dates will be the first week in March.
If your order arrives before your night temperatures are optimum for planting (65° F or above) or you are not yet ready to plant, you will need to open the boxes and store them in an area that is above 65° F until you are ready to plant. If your order does not arrive within one week following the last ship date shown for your region, please call us Toll-Free 866-892-0396.
We will make every effort to accommodate your request for specific varieties and bulb sizes. However, caladium bulbs are a crop that is grown and harvested as a gift from Mother Nature. We don’t always know what our harvest will reap and sometimes find that some varieties didn’t make the volume of bulbs that we expected. When this occurs, we contact our customers directly to communicate the shortage and work with them to make adjustments to ensure their ultimate satisfaction.
The USDA provides a much more informative map with more options and details. We have simplified our map to make it coincide with our ship dates. The USDA maps can be found online at https://plants.usda.gov/hardiness.html
